Mayors of "Big 10" cities meet in Hoover to discuss legislative priorities, economic successes

Mayors of the state’s 10 largest cities gathered in Hoover the past two days to share success stories and discuss common challenges they’re facing.

Tuscaloosa Hosts Big 10 Mayors Conference

Mayors from the state’s 10 largest cities gathered in the Druid City over the weekend, with the goal of learning from each other on how best they can tackle their community’s issues.

Alabama’s big ten mayor’s summit held in Tuscaloosa

The mayors of Alabama’s ten largest cities were in Tuscaloosa for a two-day annual meeting. Mayor Walt Maddox said topics included violent crimes and Aniah’s Law.

Aniah's Law will keep our communities safe.

Under current Alabama law, judges have limited authority to deny bail to violent offenders unless the suspect is charged with a capital offense or poses a flight risk.

That means that dangerous criminals are being released back onto the streets, even when it's likely they will commit more violent crimes as soon as they make bail.

Aniah’s Law was passed by the Alabama Legislature and signed by Governor Ivey in 2021. In order for it to go into effect, Alabama voters will need to approve it in the November election.

Voters should look and vote for the “Aniah’s Law” amendment in the November general election so we can keep violent criminals off the streets and our communities safe. Read more.
